Christmas lights in Denver stay up through January 25 thanks to the National Western Stock Show

Dec 15, 2025, 3:26 PM | Updated: Dec 16, 2025, 11:18 am

There is always quite a debate on when is the right time to take down your Christmas lights, but that debate is always easily settled in Denver.

It’s a Denver tradition to keep Christmas lights up through the National Western Stock Show, which takes place every January.

2025’s show begins on Jan. 10 and runs through Jan. 25.

The tradition of keeping lights up through the end of the Stock Show goes back decades – an article in the Steamboat Pilot from 1955 cites a then 12-year-old practice of keeping the lights on at the City and County building so Stock Show visitors could take in the festive display.

So, sit back, relax, have some extra Christmas cookies, and don’t worry about those lights for another month!
