Water World splashes into 47th season this Memorial Day weekend with new rides on the way

May 22, 2026, 4:09 PM

After a rainy, chilly week, Mother Nature got the memo to warm up in time for Memorial Day weekend! Mid-70’s to low-80’s are forecasted for Denver all weekend, and that calls for a trip to one of the best water parks in America!

Water World opens for its 47th season just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The 70-acre water park at 8801 N. Pecos St. in Federal Heights opens at 10 a.m. Saturday with more than 50 attractions, including what it says are more family tube rides than any other park in the country. Water World will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day weekend. Parking is free, and the park’s longstanding bring-your-own-picnic policy remains intact — guests may carry in food, drinks and coolers with some size restrictions.

The big buzz this summer is Summit Canyon, an outdoors-themed expansion that will be the first new attraction area at Water World since the Alpine Springs redevelopment opened in 2021. Still under construction, Summit Canyon will feature the park’s first drop-capsule water slide, in which riders enter a vertical tube and the floor drops out, sending them down more than 400 feet of slide. The area will also include Lookout Tower — the tallest point in the park — launching four new slides: Runoff Rapids, Marmot Mayhem, Columbine Cascade and Aspen Falls, plus a Critter Cove children’s zone, an obstacle course and a tranquil pool called Emerald Lake. An opening date has not been announced, but the park says it will arrive later this summer.

Water World is also marking the holiday weekend with a Military Appreciation promotion, offering free one-day admission to active and retired military personnel Saturday through Monday with a valid military ID at the group sales window. General admission tickets for the public range from $42.99 to $49.99 for adults and $37.99 to $44.99 for children.
