Bears in cars are not uncommon in Colorado, but catching a bear in a car on camera is much more rare.
Sheriff’s deputies in in Larimer County said on social media that they resolved a “bear-icade” situation involving a large bruin that found its way into a resident’s vehicle and became trapped inside.
“The first arriving deputy confirmed the claws for concern: a bear was, indeed, inside the vehicle (and he wasn’t thrilled about the situation either),” the post said.
Deputies rigged up a handle release mechanism and opened the vehicle door from a safe distance, releasing the bear.
“The owners were very appreciative, despite the damage inflicted by their clawstrophobic visitor. It’s unclear what exactly motivated this late-night visit — there wasn’t any food stored in the car,” the post said. “Either way, it serves as an unfurtunate reminder: always lock your vehicle to keep out bad guys and bears alike!”
