Former car thief from Colorado is now using his skills to help police

Jul 7, 2025, 3:25 PM

Even if your skills are illegal, they can help for good, and here’s proof!

A reformed car thief from Colorado who estimates he stole up to 200 vehicles between 2015 and 2017, has turned his life around and is now helping police fight auto theft.

After leaving his criminal lifestyle and overcoming a drug habit, Hondo Underwood began offering vehicle theft prevention tips in media interviews and was recently invited to speak at a national auto theft conference in Nashville. He’s now scheduled to appear at another event in Pennsylvania, sharing insights with law enforcement based on his past experiences.

He bow also holds down a good job at a Pueblo, Colorado lumberyard and says he has more work to do to give back, and help, not harm.

In addition to helping to prevent auto theft, Underwood hopes his story will show others that people can change for the better.
