Denver condo residents are suing a gym because of their weightlifters load ‘groans’

May 6, 2026, 4:20 PM

We’ve seen restaurants be sued for their coffee being too hot and others sue haunted houses for being too scary, but this may be a first… A Denver gym being sued because their weightlifters are grunting too loud!

Three residents of the Beauvallon condominiums in downtown Denver have sued Summit Strong, a powerlifting gym that operates on a lower floor of their building, alleging that the noise of crashing weights, banging equipment and “weightlifters groaning, yelling and struggling to lift weights” has made their homes unlivable.

The lawsuit, filed April 21 in Denver County District Court, accuses the gym of operating “a loud powerlifting gym beneath a residential floor” without adequate soundproofing or “reasonable parameters” on noise.

“Summit willingly allows its customers and/or staff to cause and emit unreasonably loud weightlifting-related noises without setting reasonable parameters,” the complaint reads.

The Beauvallon is a condominium building on North Lincoln Street in Denver’s Golden Triangle neighborhood, near the state Capitol. Active Zillow listings for two-bedroom, two-bathroom units range from $440,000 to $625,000, with at least one third-floor unit listed at $500,000.

Summit Strong opened in the building in 2024. According to the lawsuit, the gym’s noise begins as early as 5 a.m. and continues until 9 p.m. on weekdays — the gym’s hours of operation Monday through Thursday.

Beyond the daily disruptions, the lawsuit also targets the residents’ wallets. The complaint argues that the persistent noise has harmed the condo owners’ property values, asserting that “home buyers will pay less for a unit experiencing loud and unreasonable noise levels.”

No specific dollar amount for damages was disclosed in the reporting on the complaint. The suit was filed under claims including nuisance and breach of the condominium association’s rules.
