Living here in Colorado, this is somewhat shocking. We may know that our state is expensive and popular, but according to a new report, Colorado is also one of the most dangerous states.  In fact, the U.S. News and World Report list of the Top 10 most dangerous states has Colorado coming in at number three.

The report looked at data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations and their violent and property crime data report, which looked at numbers through 2022. In that data, Colorado had the second highest property crimes, mostly stolen cars, with 3,148 cases per 100,000 people. In the category of violent crimes, Colorado had a rate of 492 per 100,000 people.

On the upside for Colorado, the state ranked fourth-best for economy and fifth-best for education.

These are the 10 most dangerous states in the U.S.:

  1. New Mexico
  2. Louisiana
  3. Colorado
  4. Arkansas
  5. Washington
  6. Tennessee
  7. Alaska
  8. Oregon
  9. California
  10. Missouri
