Coach Prime signs record-breaking contract with Buffalos

Mar 28, 2025, 12:17 PM | Updated: 12:25 pm

Despite all of the fear from CU fans that Coach Prime would soon be moving to the NFL, those fears appear to be unfounded, as Deion Sanders has signed a record-breaking contract extension to the tune of $54 million over five years.

Coach Prime’s contract extension will keep him in Colorado through 2029 and makes him just one of nine coaches making at least $10 million this season.

Sanders says “We’ve just scratched the surface of what this program can be. It’s not just about football; it’s about developing young men who are ready to take on the world.”

Coach Prime, who had a hall of fame career in the NFL, brought his coaching talents to CU who were just 1-11, and immediately stirred excitement into Boulder both in tickets and merchandise being sold, estimated to be worth almost $150 million of an impact to the state. CU went from being one of the worst teams in the Power Five to competing for the Big 12 title in just two years.

Prime’s arrival also made CU one of the most-watched college football teams with over 54 million people watching last season.
