New state mushroom, no pet sales in public spaces, phones in schools and other laws go into effect in Colorado August 6

Wednesday is August 6, which is 90 days after the Colorado state legislature adjourned in the 2025 regular session, which means hundreds of new laws go into effect.
Some of the laws are a bit controversial, some are kind of silly and others have us saying, “about time!” Here’s a look at some of the more significant ones:
Misbranding Cultivated Meat Products as Meat
HB25-1203 – The act prohibits food processing plants from selling or offering for sale cell-cultivated meat that is misbranded as a meat product.
Intimate Digital Depictions Criminal & Civil Actions
SB25-288 – The act creates a cause of action against a person who discloses or threatens to disclose a highly realistic but false visual depiction of another individual (created through false computer means) that depicts the intimate body parts of the depicted individual or certain sexual acts.
Prohibiting Price Gouging in Sales of Necessities
HB25-1010 – The act provides that a person engages in price gouging if, after the governor declares a disaster emergency, the price of the good or service is increased by 10% or more above the price before the emergency.
Communication Devices in Schools
HB25-1135 – The act requires schools to adopt, implement and post on its website about student cellphone policies.
Confidentiality Requirements Mental Health Support
HB25-1087 – The act prohibits a peer support team member from disclosing, without the consent of the recipient, the confidential communications made by the recipient during a peer support interaction.
Online Cancellation of Automatic Renewal Contracts
SB25-145 – The act requires sellers to to provide consumers with an opportunity to cancel automatic renewal contracts online if the consumer consented to the automatic renewal contract online.
Insurance Coverage for Breast Cancer Examinations
SB25-296 – The act makes changes to requirements for preventive care coverage by health insurers for breast cancer screening.
Designation of State Mushroom
HB25-1091 – The act designates the Emperor mushroom, as the state mushroom of Colorado.
Prohibiting Pet Animal Sales in Public Spaces
HB25-1180 – The act prohibits pet sales on any public street, highway, right-of-way, parkway, median strip, park, recreation area, outdoor market, parking lot, or other public space.
