IndyCar officials have officially proposed bringing a high-speed street race to downtown Denver

Mar 16, 2026, 1:59 PM

The roar of engines could be coming to the Mile High City.

IndyCar officials have officially proposed bringing a high-speed street race to downtown Denver. While plans remain in the preliminary stages, the concept involves a temporary circuit winding through the city’s urban core, aiming to replicate the electric atmosphere seen in cities like Long Beach and St. Petersburg.

For us here at KOSI 101.1, the news is a welcome sign of Denver’s growing status as a major sports and entertainment hub. The prospect of an open-wheel spectacle brings not only excitement for racing fans but also a significant boost to our local economy, promising to put downtown hotels and restaurants in the fast lane.

As a Denver local who loves seeing our city shine, I’m keeping a close eye on how this might impact our daily commute and the neighborhood footprint. Bringing an event of this magnitude to our streets is a massive undertaking, and local officials are currently evaluating the logistics of safety, traffic management and noise impact to ensure it’s a win for all residents.

“We want to make sure that if we bring this event to Denver, it’s done in a way that respects the community while offering a world-class experience,” a project spokesperson noted.

Whether you’re a die-hard racing enthusiast or just someone who loves the energy of a big city event, stay tuned to KOSI 101.1. We’ll be tracking the developments as city planners and racing organizers continue these discussions.

What do you think, Denver? Are you ready to hear the engines rev downtown? Let us know your thoughts on our social media channels.
