Cody Johnson: "Thank you Luke Combs for showing me the way." | Music City Minute
Cody Johnson won the ACM for Entertainer of the Year - beating out other formable acts such as Lainey Wilson and good friend Luke Combs. During his acceptance speech, Cody surprised everyone by dedicating his win to Combs and shared an endearing story about the Hurricane singer that left lasting impression. Back in 2023, while on tour with the North Carolina native and visiting Australia, Johnson witnessed Combs’ unwavering dedication to his family, as well as country music and fans.
During that time down under, Combs’ wife, Nicole, gave birth to their second son Beau - a moment that Combs obviously missed because he was across the world. Racked with anguish, Luke could have canceled his Australia shows and flown straight home. However, instead, he pulled up his bootstraps and gave his Aussie audience an unforgettable performance. The experience taught Cody Johnson an important lesson and that is, while being a dad and a husband will always come first, country music/fans play an undeniably important and dedicated second fiddle.
