The annual Fourth of July fireworks show at Coors Field went a little sideways — literally — when a rogue firework shot into the audience during the Colorado Rockies’ celebration on Saturday night, sending fans scrambling and igniting a fire on the field.
Brut. journalist Jami Male was in the crowd when the incident occurred and captured video that has since gone viral, racking up nearly 47,000 likes on TikTok alone. The footage shows a firework breaking from the display and landing among onlookers, with fans running from the flames as the pyrotechnic ignited on the field. Social media commenters who were at the game confirmed the chaos — one Facebook user said a firework “landed on the field about 10 feet from us.” Another TikTok user posted their own angle with the caption “so this happened last night at Coors Field.”
The Coors Field show was one of the few major fireworks displays in the Denver metro that went on as planned this weekend. More than 55 professional firework shows across Colorado were canceled or postponed due to extreme drought and wildfire conditions, including shows in Castle Rock, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Arvada and Sterling Ranch. The irony of one of the shows that did go off producing a rogue firework was not lost on social media. “The (expletive) state’s on fire and they’re shooting fireworks at Coors Field,” one Instagram commenter wrote.
No serious injuries have been publicly reported. The Rockies have not issued a public statement about the incident as of this writing.
