The Solar Eclipse Happens in Colorado on Saturday – Here’s Where to See It

Oct 10, 2023, 5:08 PM

Although it won’t be a total solar eclipse like we saw in 2017, a partial solar eclipse will happen in Colorado on Saturday (October 14th). But you’ll have to leave the Denver area to see it…

The eclipse will be visible in the southwest corner of Colorado, with Cortez, Dolores, Dove Creek and Mesa Verde National Park being especially popular destinations, as they are in the path of maximum eclipse visibility.

The partial eclipse starts at around 9:11 a.m. MST and will end around 12:04 p.m. In southwest Colorado, maximum annularity (which is the greatest coverage of the sun by the moon) will happen around 10:33 a.m.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is warning of heavy traffic heading to see the eclipse from Thursday night through the end of the eclipse on Saturday afternoon, especially on U.S. Highway 160, U.S. Highway 491, and Colorado Highway 184.
