Most of us call it decorated once the plastic skeleton is on the porch. In Monument, Colorado, Laura and Scott Traxler went a lot further and turned their whole home into a haunted house, all three floors of it. “Our vision was to turn the house into three levels of horror,” Scott told FOX21. “So turn it into, like, a haunted house, if you will.”
The scares start in the basement, which Scott describes as “kind of like a Pirates of the Caribbean meets The Walking Dead.” There’s also a toxic-waste scene with a “Jaws-type character,” a fisherman on a dock, a sewer rat, and a person who pops out of a can.
Upstairs, the middle floor has a 12-foot skeleton and a coven of witches, which has long been Laura’s favorite. She does have a soft spot for the Chucky display, though. “I’m a Chucky freak,” she said. Scott’s pick is what he calls “Murderer’s Row,” a lineup of retro characters from classic Halloween movies. Then comes the top floor, which FOX21 called “nightmare fuel”: a graveyard with a grave robber on one side and Pennywise waiting on the other.
Putting all of this together takes the couple about two months. So when you finally drag the fake cobwebs out of the garage this week, keep in mind that somewhere in Monument, a 12-foot skeleton has been standing guard since late summer.
