Denver International Airport has been accused of a lot over the years: secret bunkers, hidden tunnels, lizard people and a demon horse out front. Now United Airlines has decided to investigate. Just in time for Halloween, the airline posted a tongue-in-cheek video in which a team of self-proclaimed “paranormal experts” goes looking for answers at its Denver hub.
The video plays like a late-night ghost-hunting show. The crew creeps through a dark, cave-like tunnel with flashlights, heads into DIA’s underground baggage areas and investigates the rumors that have followed the airport since it opened in 1995. You won’t see any lizard people, but you will see some very nervous people with flashlights.
DIA is a natural target. Conspiracy theorists have been picking it apart for decades. They point to the strange murals, a mysterious capstone, rumors of tunnels under the runways and “Blucifer,” the 32-foot blue mustang with glowing red eyes that greets drivers on Peña Boulevard. The airport has gotten in on the joke too, with a talking animatronic gargoyle in a suitcase and construction signs teasing its supposed secrets. With this video, United is taking a turn at the bit.
So did the ghost hunters find proof of an underground bunker? Who knows, but they did find some random guy named Kevin down there.
