Birthday Bash 2024 headliner: Jordan Davis

Jun 3, 2024, 11:41 AM | Updated: 1:57 pm

KYGO’s Birthday Bash, a concert celebrating the station’s 44 years as Denver’s number one for new country, will bring Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Chayce Beckham, Ashley Cooke, Alana Springsteen and Chase Matthew together to perform at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre June 9. The event kicks off at 4 p.m.

Headlining the show is Shreveport, Louisiana-born Davis. Born in 1988 to parents Luwanna and Ricky, he grew up surrounded by family who were no strangers to country music, as his uncle, Stan Paul Davis, penned hits for Tracy Lawrence, including “Better Man, Better Off” (1997) and “Today’s Lonely Fool” (1992). According to Davis’ mother in an interview with Louisiana Radio Network, their home was musical, with Ricky writing songs and her playing piano for their church.

The 36-year-old stuck around in Louisiana through early adulthood, graduating from Louisiana State University with a degree in environmental science. Soon after, he made the trek to Nashville to pursue music. He signed a recording contract with Universal Music Group Nashville in 2016.

Davis made the foray official with the release of his first single one year later in 2017, “Singles You Up,” which he cowrote with Steven Dale Jones and Justin Ebach. He found success right out of the gate, with the debut song reaching number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2018. It was a part of his first album, “Home State,” released that same year. Subsequent singles off the album, “Take It From Me” and “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot,” found similar success, peaking at number two and one on the chart, respectively. Paul DiGiovanni, the guitarist from Boys Like Girls, produced the album.

He didn’t release music again until May of 2020, when he released his first EP, self-titled. The EP produced singles “Cool Anymore”, “Detours” and “Almost Maybes.” He released another EP, “Buy Dirt,” in 2021, named after the single off the album sung with Luke Bryan.

Five years after the release of his debut album, in 2023, the “Singles You Up” singer released his second album, “Bluebird Days.” Most of the songs on the album were written with his brother, Jacob Davis, also a country singer. However, this was far from the first time the two were connected due to music. According to Luwanna, Jacob would play “…every week, at this little bar close to LSU and just got a huge following. And Jordan would sort of just carry the equipment in and get in free.” Jacob also helped to write “Buy Dirt.”

“Next Thing You Know” off of the album took the Academy of Country Music Award for Song of the Year earlier in 2024, which he discussed KYGO’s own Tracy and Fizz.

In 2018, he married Kristen O’Connor, and had a daughter in 2019 and two sons, one in 2021 and 2023.
