Investors are interested in building a new arena in Denver for a WNBA team

I am all about Denver getting a WNBA franchise at some point, but this news seems like poor timing as Broomfield is losing millions to tear down a perfectly fine arena…

Denver has been on the short list to get a professional women’s basketball franchise for a few years now, falling short each time, but the league keeps looking to expand. The league is looking for a 16th team to join by 2028, and the competition is heating up. In a report this week, The Athletic identified nine contenders, including a group from Denver.

Denver’s Dimond family is part of the Denver bid. Navin Dimond is the founder of the hotelier Stonebridge Companies. Ashley Dimond, his daughter, confirmed to The Athletic that they plan to build a new arena for the team, assuming they win the bid.

There’s no word on when the WNBA will chose a new city, or where the new arena would be build if Denver got a team.
