Fall colors currenlty at peak in several mountain towns

Denver, CO — Although we’re still seeing 80 degree days in Denver, up in the mountains of Northern Colorado, fall colors are vibrant as leaves have begin to change in mountain towns.

Specifically, this weekend, Aspen, Breckenridge Grand Lake, Winter Park, Crested Butte, Steamboat Springs and Grand Junction will be in full-fall effect. According to 5News Meteorology, if you’re searching for beautiful hikes and colorful views, the vast majority of central/north-eastern Colorado will provide it for you.

Starting towards the most Northern Region, Steamboat Springs colors change first. Slowly, Fall colors are spreading south down to Pagosa Springs and Trinidad.

However, if making it to the mountains was not apart of your weekend plans, make it a near future plan. Meteorology shows Fall reds, yellows and oranges will begin to dissipate come early October.

Why are the colors changing so fast? According to 5News, the drought is to blame. “Drought plays a key role in our seasonal fall foliage,” 5news reported. “According to the latest drought report, areas of Moderate to Severe Drought have returned to portions of southwestern Colorado.”
