Beyond the Badge – Heidi Prentup

Division Chief Heidi Prentup started her law enforcement career in 1981 as a Cadet with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. After graduating from college she returned to Colorado and was hired as a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where she worked for two years before returning to Boulder County.
Heidi was a patrol deputy for 5 years. During this time she was a hostage negotiator on the SWAT team. She was a detective for 10 years investigating person’s crimes, specifically child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault cases. After being promoted to sergeant Heidi returned to the street and supervised patrol shifts for 4 years until she was promoted to Commander. She was a Commander in patrol for 5 years and is currently a Division Chief in the Support Services Division.
Heidi is a Colorado native, born and raised in Boulder, and her family all still live in the area. As a detective working sexual assault on children cases she was involved with Blue Sky Bridge, the advocacy center in Boulder. She assisted with fundraisers and promoting the value of the center.
Heidi is passionate about our elderly citizens and was the law enforcement representative to the committee drifting legislation for mandatory reporting of elder abuse.
Her husband retired from the Sheriff’s Office 8 years ago. Their passion is building stronger marriages, something law enforcement, as well as our community at large needs. Heidi and her husband present World Wide Marriage Encounter retreats in the Denver metro area. They are Region Coordinators for Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas dedicated to bringing retreats and ongoing mentoring to married couples.
As a three time cancer survivor Heidi spends time supporting newly diagnosed cancer patients helping them with the challenges they will experience with chemo and radiation treatment.
