A Denver restaurant is facing a lawsuit after allegedly selling prescription medications alongside its menu items

Aug 3, 2026, 10:00 AM

Hold Up — You Can’t Get Antibiotics With Your Tacos

The Colorado State Board of Pharmacy has filed suit against Panaderia y Taqueria Chihuas in Denver, accusing the restaurant of selling two medications without a prescription — a topical antibiotic used to treat eye infections and an anti-parasitic drug.

Yes, you read that right. Antibiotics. At a taqueria.

Look, we love a one-stop shop as much as the next exhausted mom, but this is not the kind of “pick up a few extra things while you’re there” situation anyone should be encouraging.

Beyond the legal issues, selling prescription antibiotics without proper oversight is a serious public health concern — misuse can contribute to antibiotic resistance, which is genuinely scary stuff.

The pharmacy board is responsible for regulating the sale and distribution of drugs in Colorado, and this one is pretty clearly in their lane.

The bottom line: If your eye is bothering you or you think you’ve got a parasite situation going on (oof), please call your actual doctor. 🙏

We’ll keep you updated as this case moves forward.
