Boyz II Men announce first country album, release set for 2027

Boyz II Men is heading to Nashville — musically speaking. They signed with Warner Records Nashville and plans to release their first country album next year.

Apparently, the end of the road has a cattle guard.

I’ll admit, my first thought was: Are we emotionally prepared for this? Because if those harmonies get anywhere near a song about an old dog, I’m going to need a minute in the KYGO parking lot. And honestly, the move makes sense to me. Heartbreak is heartbreak, whether you’re wearing a silk shirt or pearl snaps. Country music just gives you the option of processing it in your truck.

“If you love country, and you love Boyz II Men, then you’ll love this album,” Wanya Morris told the Tennessean newspaper.

That’s a pretty straightforward sales pitch. Mine would be: Come for the harmonies. Stay because you’re crying too hard to operate a vehicle.

There’s already a little country-road experience here. During Nashville’s July Fourth celebration this year, the group performed John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” As a Colorado country radio guy, I respect a John Denver warmup. But Boyz II Men making a country album? I’m listening.

Somebody pass the tissues. And maybe a cowboy hat.
