Think You’re Smart Enough for Jeopardy!? They’re Hiring — and Paying Big

Jul 8, 2026, 11:21 AM

If you’ve been screaming answers at your TV every night thinking you could do a better job — now’s your chance to prove it.

According to the NY Post, Jeopardy! is on the hunt for a new clue writer, and the gig pays up to $178,000 a year. Yes, you read that right. Almost $178K to be the person who makes contestants feel either brilliant or completely humiliated on national television.

Sounds like a dream job, honestly.

But before you update that resume, know that it’s not as easy as it looks. Applicants need to show some serious wit — shocking, we know — and must pass the actual Jeopardy! contestant quiz.

Oh, and you’ll also need to submit 12 original clue categories and three Final Jeopardy clues just to apply.

So basically, homework. Lots of homework.

As a mom of two pre-teen girls who think they know everything already, I’m half tempted to make THEM apply. Consider it a character-building exercise.

Good luck, Denver. We’re rooting for you!
