A Denver man was found dead in Yellowstone National Park earlier this week, the National Park Service announced Thursday. Boaters on Yellowstone Lake discovered the body of 41-year-old Brandon Rhea floating in the water near Rock Point, on the northwest shore of the lake close to Bridge Bay, on Monday morning. Rangers responded to the scene and recovered Rhea’s body, along with a capsized kayak and his personal belongings.
The National Park Service said the incident is currently under investigation, and no cause of death has been released. Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake in North America and is known for its dangerously cold water temperatures, which can pose serious risks even for experienced paddlers.
Our thoughts are with Brandon’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. If you’re heading out to any of Colorado’s — or the region’s — beautiful outdoor spaces this summer, please take every precaution on the water. Always wear a life jacket and let someone know your plans before you go.
