Rockies trade Ryan McMahon to Yankees

When you’re historically bad like the Colorado Rockies are this season, there usually aren’t very many good players on the team. So, you’d think they would want to hold onto the few that are decent, right?
Ryan McMahon is far from being a superstar, but he’s been a consistently decent player for the Rockies since 2017 (with the organization since 2013), and a fan favorite. Friday, the Rockies did what they seem to do with all of their decent layers, they shipped him to the New York Yankees.
In return, the Rockies got two guys you’ve never heard of, Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz, both pitching prospects.
McMahon, who is 30, made one All-Star team in his nine seasons in the big leagues in Denver. He has the 11th-most home runs in franchise history (140) and has drawn the sixth-most walks (402).
With this season already being a complete loss, sources think the team may continue to deal veteran players before the MLB trade deadline, which is at 4 p.m. MDT on July 31.
