Ingrid Andress stopped by the 98.5 KYGO Performance Studio to perform a recent release “Footprints,” along with a piano rendition of “I’d Love To.”
Shawn Patrick and the 33-year-old discussed “the incident” that took place during the summer of 2024, in which Andress’ performance of the national anthem at the MLB’s Home Run Derby in Dallas attracted negative press and was widely criticized. The singer-songwriter confessed to being intoxicated during the performance, which subsequently prompted her to go to rehab and take a break from performing.
Andress, although born in Southfield, Mich., is frequently associated with Colorado, having grown up in Highlands Ranch. So, after her year-long break from performing, it seemed only fitting that on Feb. 28, in her first public appearance since the incident, Andress once again sang the anthem before a Colorado Avalanche game – this time, under much different circumstances. In her words, she did it so “that chapter would feel closed” and to “show that I can actually sing it. And, so, I really did it for me.” A little over a month later, she followed that up with another Colorado performance at Belly Up in Aspen, which was her first full show back.
And, if asked to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, her response? Simply put: “Hell no.”
After her stint in rehab, Andress spent a lot of time in the Centennial State “letting go and getting lost” while hiking, snowboarding and, of course, songwriting – the “Wishful Drinking” singer promises more Colorado inspiration in her upcoming work.
Andress plans to release her stockpiled songs one song at a time, and hopes that the collection will result in an album. That would make it her third – her first, “Lady Like,” was released in 2020, her second, “Good Person,” in 2022.
