LOOK – Porcupines put down roots at Loveland Ski Area in Colorado

I’m a Colorado native and somewhat embarrassed to say I had no idea that Colorado had porcupines.

Turns out porcupines are as common in Colorado as deer or elk, but they are not often seen, especially in winter. They tend to take to the trees in cold months to forage for food and stay warm.

So, in a pretty rare scenario, a couple of porcupines have become stars off the Ptarmigan Lift at Loveland Ski Area the last few seasons.

“Our porcupine residents have become a bit of a beloved sight at Loveland Ski Area,” Loveland Ski Area said. “Guests riding the Ptarmigan Lift often spot them lounging in the trees just before leaving treeline, and they seem to enjoy their perch overlooking the slopes.” “Locals have even given one a name — Porothis the Porky.”
