It seems like every week new red flags are raised over the dangers of the unchecked speed of AI services, and AI is once again in the headlines for its potential future impact on smart home appliances.
The AI safety and research company Anthropic released a report indicating that AI models may soon be able to self replicate themselves onto common smart home devices such as ovens, refrigerators or TVs. This would make them difficult to control, as there would not be a centralized location to shut them off.
They also say that an AI worm could swarm over several devices and enable an ‘worst case scenario’ attack.
Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei previously warned that AI might at one point be able to hijack the entire internet with a “persistent botnet.”
