When you think of things are pure Denver, things like Casa Bonita, Jake Jabs, Blucifer, and the Denver Nuggets Super-Mascot Rocky come to mind first. The guy was Rocky for 33 years is now telling his story from all those years under the iconic suit.
Kenn Solomon was the first Rocky, and the only Rocky for almost all of the first 33 years of the mascot’s existence, with only his son, Drake, playing the part after Solomon “retired” after the 2021 season. After Drake was injured the elder Solomon got back in the suit as the Nuggets won their first NBA title in 2023, before hanging up the suit for good.
In those 33 years, becoming one of, if not the best, mascot of all-time, you can bet that Solomon has stories… Our friends at Westword told Solomon’s story from start to finish really well, so when I had the chance to talk to Kenn I wanted focus less on the overall story and more on specific Rocky memories. In our forty-minute chat I think we were able to get some pretty memorable stuff from Kenn.
