’90s nostalgia exhibit at History Colorado Center finds new life on social media

May 22, 2026, 4:40 PM

An exhibition about the 1990s at the History Colorado Center is drawing renewed attention on social media more than 18 months after its opening, with TikTok and Instagram users flooding the museum’s galleries to snap photos alongside MTV logos, Beanie Baby displays and other pop-culture artifacts from the decade.

“The 90s: Last Decade Before the Future,” which opened in November 2024 at the downtown Denver museum, takes visitors through the landmark events, cultural shifts and consumer crazes that defined the final decade of the 20th century. The exhibit explores how many of the anxieties Americans face today — about technology, political division and a seemingly endless stream of world-changing events — have roots in the 1990s.

Multiple TikTok videos touring the exhibit have racked up tens of thousands of views in recent weeks, with creators calling it “pretty cool and nostalgic” and joking that recognizing the artifacts on display means “congrats, you’re old.” The viral buzz comes at an opportune time for the museum, which is also hosting several high-profile exhibits as part of Colorado’s 150th statehood anniversary, including “Moments That Made US,” a collection of more than 40 national artifacts on display through October.

The History Colorado Center, at 1200 N. Broadway, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for visitors 18 and under is free. General admission tickets and information are available at historycolorado.org.

@coloradobusinessfinder It was such a cool exhibition at History Colorado Center! “The ’90s: Last Decade Before the Future” took visitors on a nostalgic journey through the 1990s with recreated spaces, vintage games, pop culture memorabilia, and hundreds of artifacts from the decade. From a Blockbuster video store setup to iconic movie costumes and retro technology, the exhibit captured the feeling of a time when the world was rapidly changing from analog to digital. #tiktokgorisingstarsl1 #historycoloradocenter #exhibition #museum #denver ♬ 90’s – Dih
