What’s really going on with Venezuelan gangs in Denver?

TikTok and other social media platforms have been littered with terrifying videos of “Venezuelan gangs” taking over apartment complexes in Denver, but what’s really happening?

Well, it’s not fake… Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman acknowledged on Thursday (Aug. 29) that Venezuelan gangs have taken control of several apartment complexes in the northern part of the city in what he called “a nightmare situation.” He also admitted that the city “lost control” of the gang infiltration “and we’re working aggressively to get it back.”

The Denver Police Department also acknowledged that gang members may be linked to local crimes, however they have found no evidence of apartments being taken over in Denver.

Then there’s Denver Mayor Mike Johnston who’s explained that the Denver Police Department has been proactively working with federal, state, and local agencies to address the emerging threat, saying, “This should never happen in our state, and it will not be tolerated in Denver. We will hold those who break the law accountable. We will hunt them down, find them, arrest them, and deport them. We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior.”

So long story short, the gangs are real, but the good guys say they’re taking care of it. Hopefully that’s actually the case!
