Florida Georgia Line: Truth behind the breakup revealed | Music City Minute
Three years ago, Florida Georgia Line's "indefinite hiatus" sent shockwaves throughout country music. Rumors about the break-up permeated the Nashville air like mash boiling in a still. Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelly are widely recognized as a genre defining duo who helped hard launch bro and boyfriend country. That said, who would’ve guessed FGL's split was as drama free as their songs? Finally setting the record straight, Hubbard admits the band’s coup de grâce was triggered, ironically, by a song.
According to Hubbard, one day in 2022, he and Brian Kelley were discussing a new song. Apparently, Kelley had pitched the self-penned tune to Kenny Chesney, who decided to pass on it. BK was convinced the moment was "a sign" he should record the song solo. And so, with that epiphany, (as well as the realization both men were in very different places personally) FGL, the group, was no more. Thankfully, there is no bad blood between BK and Hubbard. Even though they are not as close as in their heyday, the duo has remained friends.
