If you’ve been feeling that itch to get outside lately, you’re not alone. With these warm Colorado days teasing us into spring mode, it’s the perfect time to dust off the gear, make a plan with friends or family, and find some water. Good news: the 2026–2027 fishing season is officially underway! Colorado Parks and Wildlife says fishing licenses for the 2026–2027 season are available now, and you can buy them online. Licenses are valid immediately after purchase and run through March 31, 2027.
One of the best parts for families: children 15 and under can fish for free in Colorado. If you’ve been looking for an easy, low-pressure way to get outside with the kids (or grandkids), this is your sign.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife also offers specialty licenses and passes for eligible groups, including:
Veterans
People with disabilities
Seniors
First responders
Income-eligible residents
Here’s how to buy your license:
You can get your license online through Colorado Parks and Wildlife, by phone, or in person at any Colorado Parks and Wildlife office
Even if you’re not chasing a trophy catch, there’s something about being near the water that resets your whole mood. A couple of chairs, some snacks, sunshine on your face…that’s a pretty great Colorado day.
So if this warm weather has you ready to get out of the house, fishing season is ready for you.
