Mar 20, 2023, 5:39 PM

As you watch March Madness as a sad Colorado fan this year because no home state steams made the tournament, check this out… Not only did a Colorado kid make a showing in his sport’s version of March Madness, he won the whole thing!

Greeley native, Andrew Alirez just brought an NCAA National Championship home to the University of Northern Colorado in wrestling.

The four-time state champion at Greeley Central High School was the No. 2-seeded wrestler in the 141-pound bracket of the NCAA National Championships, and defeated Iowa’s Real Woods with a 6-4 decision in a battle of unbeatens to cap off a perfect season (28-0).

Alirez is bringing home the first national championship title to the University of Northern Colorado since 1962.
