If you or your kids have found a bunch of Hershey Kisses in your loot after trick-or-treating over the years, here’s why…

CandyStore.com reviewed candy purchases from the past 17 years and put together a ranking of the top three candies in every state.  Of course, people buy candy for a lot of reasons throughout the year, so they focused on the months leading up to Halloween.

Although, to me, they’re more of a Valentine’s Day candy, Hershey Kisses were number one in Colorado. Kisses were followed by Milky Way and Twix, respectively.

Here’s the top 10 overall . . . along with the states where it was the top seller:

1.  M&M’s – #1 in: California, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington, D.C.

2.  Reese’s Cups – #1 in: Florida, Kentucky, New Hampshire, and Wyoming.

3.  Sour Patch Kids – #1 in: Alaska, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Nebraska, New York, and Texas.

4.  Skittles – #1 in: Alabama.

5.  Starburst – #1 in: Indiana and Michigan.

6.  Hot Tamales – #1 in: Minnesota, New Mexico, and North Dakota.

7.  Candy Corn – #1 in: Our hearts. Kidding. It was #1 in Maryland and Utah.

8.  Hershey Kisses – #1 in: Arizona and Colorado.

9.  Hershey Mini Bars – #1 in: Hawaii, Nevada, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.

10.  Butterfinger – Arkansas, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Outside of the Top 10, Snickers is #1 in Tennessee and Idaho. Jolly Ranchers are #1 in Georgia and South Dakota. Almond Joy is #1 in Connecticut and Missouri. Twix is #1 in Montana. Tootsie Pops are #1 in New Jersey.

3 Musketeers is #1 in Mississippi. Blow Pops are #1 in Ohio, and Lemonheads are #1 in Louisiana.
