Fan of the Colorado Buffaloes football team or not, most will agree that the running of Ralphie at CU games in Boulder is one of the coolest traditions in college football. After missing the team’s first game this season, the tradition returns this weekend!
On Friday (Sept 19), the CU Buffs announced their newest mascot will be making her debut in the sold-out stadium tomorrow, leading the football team onto the field before kickoff at 8:15 p.m. MNT against Wyoming on Folsom Field.
After Ralphie VI’s retirement this offseason due to her “indifference” to running, VII has been training with CU’s live mascot handling team for this exact moment. After multiple months of work, the university announced that VII is ready.
The new buffalo is only one year old, weighs approximately 700 pounds and is technically an American Bison. She hails from Eagle’s Wing Ranch near Steamboat, Colorado.
The game is sold out, but will be nationally televised on Fox.
