Ten country and western movies to watch on Valentine’s Day

Feb 13, 2026, 4:05 PM | Updated: 4:29 pm

It is Valentine’s Day weekend, and romance in the air – well, the idea of romance, anyway.

Even though romantic movies aren’t usually my first choice of cinematic entertainment, I can admit I am a sucker for a good love story. (Yes, deep down I am a hopeless romantic.) That said, I compiled a list of some of my favorite romantic-country-western movies to share with you.

Now, it is vitally important to get the vibe perfect before the movie marathon can start. Following a delicious meal, gifting a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and chocolate covered strawberries to a special someone (or yourself), you’ll want to slip into something a little more comfortable (like fleece-lined joggers and oversized hoodie). Then, you will sink into your favorite chair and prepare to destroy the whole plate of strawberries while love unfolds on screen.

Okay, enough of my jabber jawing, let’s get after it! By the way, movies are in no particular order:

“Open Range” – starring Kevin Costner, Annette Bening and Robert Duvall (2003)

“The Legend of Zorro” – starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones (2005)

“All the Pretty Horses” – starring Matt Damon and Penélope Cruz (2000)

“The Longest Ride” – starring Scott Eastwood and Britt Robertson (2015)

“Legends of the Fall” – starring Brad Pitt and Julia Ormond (1994)

“Dances With Wolves” – starring Kevin Costner and Mary McDonnell (1990)

“Walk the Line” – starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon (2005)

“Appaloosa” – starring Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen and Renée Zellweger (2008)

“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” – starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds (1982)

“Pure Country” – starring “The King” George Strait and Isabel Glasser (1992)

All right, there you have it. Hopefully one (or more) of these flicks will tickle your fancy, or at the very least, make you drowsy enough for a fantastic nap.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
