Southwest Airlines is pulling the plug on three direct flights out of Denver, including a popular vacation spot

May 1, 2024, 4:13 PM | Updated: May 2, 2024, 12:02 pm

I feel like every time I write something about Southwest Airlines these days, it’s bad news. Here we go again.

Southwest announced that it would no longer serve four airports starting in August. This includes three airports that currently have direct flights to and from Denver International Airport.

The following airports will no longer have any Southwest flights landing or departing starting in August:

  • Bellingham International Airport in Bellingham, Wash.
  • George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas
  • Cozumel International Airport in Cozumel, Mexico
  • Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, N.Y.

The only one of these that Denver did not fly to directly was Syracuse. The other three airports all had at least one nonstop flight to and from the airport per week.

The good news is Bellingham is the only flight that isn’t offered on any other airline out of DIA. The other destinations have direct flights out of DIA offered by other airlines. Also, Southwest will still offer direct service to Houston, you’ll just have to fly to and from William P. Hobby Airport.
