Proposed Colorado bill would make condiments available only on request

Isn’t it nice when you go to a fast food restaurant and you automatically get napkins, straws, and condiments in your bag when you’re leaving? Now things could be changing here in Colorado under a new proposed bill.

The senate bill 26-146, “Restrict Single-Use Serviceware Distribution,” was brought up back in March being connected to the “Pollution Reduction Act,” that restricts plastic bags and food containers. This new proposed bill is being brought up by Democratic Sen. Lisa Cutter. She wants to expand the act by restricting food establishments and food services from providing “single-use service” unless requested by the customer.

Under this new proposed bill, customers would have to ask for items such as napkins, plastic forks, spoons,  and knives, condiments, straws, lids, or even chopsticks.

The plan for this bill would reduce waste and potential harmful effects on Colorado’s natural resources.

Not only do the workers have less things to worry about when handing out food, but the customer is going to have to ask multiple times for items before they even leave the restaurant.

Sounds like our days of getting extra sauce for our chicken nuggets are going away as well as collecting all of the Taco Bell sauce we can get for our burritos and tacos! Also if you forget to ask for napkins, you better hope you don’t spill anything in your car because you likely won’t have anything to clean it up with.

The proposed bill is on the way to the House and could go into effect on Aug 12.
