Continuing to hint at the release of a potential country album, Post Malone gave followers a peak into a new song he’s been working on with his post on Instagram Wednesday. Only this time, the featured artist is Morgan Wallen.
Malone, born Austin Post, captioned the video with, “Let’s go with the real mix this time,” and tagged Wallen. The video featured Malone drinking his signature Bud Light, a brand he has partnered with since 2018, singing along to the unreleased collaboration.
Malone then shared the post on his story, accompanied with a comment from Wallen: “I had some help getting to the point of posting it at 4 a.m. This song is one of my favs in a long time.”
This isn’t the “Sunflower” singer’s first time singing with Wallen, as he performed alongside him and Hardy during November’s Country Music Awards. The trio paid tribute to Joe Diffie with “Pickup Man”, released by late country star in 1994. Shortly following the performance, Malone confirmed a “country record is coming” live on a Twitch stream.
In mid-February, he similarly teased a collaboration with Luke Combs, posting himself singing along to yet another unreleased single, this one with a name. “I Ain’t Got a Guy for That” does not yet have a public release date.
These events weren’t Malone’s first foray into country, though.
In March 2021, Malone performed a cover of Brad Paisley’s 2002 hit, “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song)”, during a fundraiser event for Texas put on by Matthew McConaughey. Paisley gave his stamp of approval — and more — by commenting, “This is better than me,” on Malone’s TikTok of the performance. Not only that, but Paisley went so far as to change his TikTok bio to “I write songs for Post Malone.”
Over two years later, in December 2023, Paisley hinted that the two have worked in the studio together on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, causing fans to speculate whether the two will release a song together.
Although traditionally known for his blend of pop, hip hop, R&B and rap, Malone has frequently embraced the genre. Most recently, on March 13, he shared a snippet of an original song entitled “Missin’ You Like This”, which many are speculating will be a track off of what may be his debut country album. Earlier in the month at a show in Texas, he performed Toby Keith’s “As Good As I Once Was” to honor the recent passing of the country artist.
