NASA is shooting for the moon. A guide to the Artemis II mission

Mar 31, 2026, 12:09 PM

To Infinity and beyond!!

The countdown to history is officially on. NASA is gearing up for its first crewed moon mission in more than 50 years, with a launch window set for April 1 at 6:24 p.m. MST.

Yes, it’s April Fools’ Day—but I promise you, this mission is the real deal.

The four-person crew—a diverse team representing a woman, a person of color and a non-American—has officially entered mandatory quarantine. Basically, they’re being tucked away to make sure they don’t catch a cold before heading to the literal moon. Must be nice to have a government-mandated break from the rest of us, right?

While NASA’s massive Space Launch System (SLS) rocket has dealt with its fair share of technical hiccups and “are we there yet?” delays, mission officials are feeling surprisingly confident. For those of us here in the Mile High City, the anticipation is building as we get ready to tune in to this historic milestone.

Meteorologists are keeping a close eye on the skies, with current reports indicating an 80% chance of favorable weather for liftoff. Let’s hope Mother Nature plays nice, because I don’t think any of us want to be glued to a livestream for a scrubbed launch.

We know how much our KOSI 101.1 family loves a good milestone. This mission serves as a beautiful reminder of what humanity can achieve when we reach for the stars together—and frankly, it’s a nice break from our usual terrestrial headlines.

Stay tuned to KOSI 101.1 for updates as we follow the crew on their incredible voyage. Safe travels to the team of Artemis II—we’ll be watching from home, cheering you on every step of the way (and keeping our fingers crossed for a smooth ride).
