Morgan Wallen gives fans piano update couple of days after Denver incident

Morgan Wallen would like everyone to know that his piano is fine. Mostly.

The country star broke his silence with a TikTok video following the moment that dominated social media over the weekend: Wallen flipping an upright piano onstage at Empower Field at Mile High during his Friday night show in Denver. In the short clip, Wallen walked up to a keyboard, looked at the camera and said, “Hey, I just want you guys to know that, right now, this piano is working.” He paused, took a step away, then turned back with a grin: “That’s what they told me last night, too.” The caption read: “Can’t you tell I’m so distraught over my piano.”

The incident happened during the encore of “Sand in My Boots” at the first of Wallen’s two sold-out shows at Empower Field on May 29. Wallen was seated at the piano when technical difficulties apparently prevented him from hearing the instrument through his in-ear monitors, according to Rolling Stone. Visibly frustrated, he tried to push through, then gave up on the piano entirely — finishing the ballad a cappella to roaring cheers from the crowd. After the final note, he walked back to the piano and shoved it over, sending it crashing to the stage floor as fans gasped and then erupted.

The a cappella performance has drawn widespread praise online, with fans and commentators noting Wallen’s voice was powerful enough to carry one of his biggest songs without a single instrument.

By all accounts, the piano was either repaired or replaced in time for Night 2 on Saturday, where “Sand in My Boots” reportedly went off without a hitch. Wallen also revealed a Denver-specific highlight from Night 1 that drew less attention than the piano incident: Broncos legend John Elway walked him out to the stage. The Still the Problem Tour continues this weekend in Pittsburgh.
