Last week, we learned that emus are flightless birds native to Australia, but legal to own as pets in Colorado. Still, unless you’re at a zoo, you don’t see them around our state very often. Something must be in in the water though, because twice in a week, one has gotten loose in Colorado!
Last week a pet emu was loose on Colfax in Lakewood. Law enforcement captured and returned that emu home.
This weekend, though, the loose emu was a bit more of a mystery at first. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office posted on X Friday morning saying that one of its animal control officers received a report of a possible loose emu in the Camfield area. Ultimately, the sheriffs office – with some help from a cowboy – caught the emu. Later that night, they updated the public that the bird’s owner had been found.
Did you lose your emu?
This morning one of our Animal Control Officer’s (ACO) received a call of a loose Emu in the Camfield area.
A kind Weld County resident agreed to meet our ACO and help find and capture it.
The resident and our ACO ended up finding the Emu on private… pic.twitter.com/B5ec23zRqq
