James Van Der Beek, actor known for roles in ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Varsity Blues,’ dies at 48

James Van Der Beek has passed away at the age of 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer.

The actor known for his roles in “Dawson’s Creek” and “Varsity Blues” revealed in 2024 that he had been battling stage 3 cancer since August 2023 after finding out a tabloid was going to reveal the news.

On Van Der Beek’s Instagram account, his family shared “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wish, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.”
