Here’s why leaves may not produce bright fall colors around Denver this year

If you’ve been disappointed with the fall colors around Denver so far this year, I hate to break it to you, but it may not get a whole lot better…
The trees normally start to change when the weather gets cooler in September, but that never really happened, and has consistently stayed much warmer into October this year. That means the trees are a few weeks behind.
With the trees still thinking it’s summer, they may not get enough “fall-like weather” before winter gets here, and therefore may just start losing leaves, leaving us without vibrant colors.
Of course, if we do get three or four weeks of fall weather before it gets really cold that all could change.
The good news is the mountains have gotten the cooler temps, and the leaves are beautiful, so you are still a short drive away from the beauty we are used to in Colorado each fall.
