For the last almost 23 years, if you turned on ESPN in the mid-afternoon, you were likely to see one of Denver’s own on a show called “Around the Horn.” Sadly, the show is coming to an end.
“Around the Horn” will air its final episode on Friday, May 23, ending a nearly 23-year run that started on Nov. 4, 2002.
The show that ran every weekday at 5 p.m. EST, features four panelists, mostly sports columnists from newspapers around the country, who tried to earn points and avoid being muted by the host as they gave their opinions on the biggest sports stories of the day.
The columnist who holds the show record for most appearances and wins, Woody Paige, proudly represented Denver on the show where he was fondly known for his colorful comments/statements on a chalkboard behind him. He was a columnist for The Denver Post for 35 years, before joining The Gazette in Colorado Springs, where he still writes today.
Paige posted on social media, “My records will never be broken. But my heart is broken.”
