Downtown Denver now has a Harry Potter pop-up bar

May 11, 2026, 4:45 PM

Denver’s summer of Harry Potter now has a basement bar.

The Underground School of Magic,” a Harry Potter-themed pop-up, has opened in the downstairs space at Church and Union in the Union Station neighborhood, complete with hanging candles, Daily Prophet newspaper clippings, acceptance letters and a themed cocktail menu that includes Liquid Luck and, naturally, Butter Beer.

The pop-up opened May 6 and runs through June 21. Reservations are recommended — and already booking up quickly, according to the restaurant.

The pop-up features a themed food and cocktail program built around the wizarding world. Drinks include Liquid Luck and Butter Beer, while the food menu leans into series references with items including Hogwarts House Rolls, Luna Lovegood’s Whipped Ricotta and Hagrid’s Meatballs.

The underground setting — Church and Union’s lower-level space on 17th Street — lends itself to the vibe. The decor transforms the room into something between a common room and a potions classroom, with floating candles overhead and wizarding ephemera on the walls.

The pop-up arrives amid a broader wave of Harry Potter experiences hitting Denver this summer:

  • “Harry Potter: The Exhibition” opens June 26 at 417 S. Broadway in the former Ace Hardware store, featuring authentic props, costumes and immersive environments from the films. Tickets go on sale May 14.
  • “DroneArt Show: Harry Potter” lights up Tivoli Quad on the Auraria Campus on July 10-11, with 1,200 drones performing synchronized formations set to the franchise’s soundtrack. Tickets range from $46.50 to $98.
  • “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is coming to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, with dates to be confirmed.
