Labor day is the unofficial end of summer, but it seems like some of y’all are ready to skip right to Christmas already…
We’ve still got 113 days until Christmas, so no need to rush out to the stores, but you may want to keep your winter coat handy because snow in September is not uncommon in Denver.
Since the National Weather Service (NWS) began keeping records in 1882, it has snowed in September 46 times in Denver.
Most recently the Mile High City saw an inch on Sept. 8th, 2020, which was the second earliest snow the city has ever seen. The earliest coming when we got 4.2 on Sept. 3rd, 1961.
On average, the average first day of measurable snowfall comes on Oct. 18, according to the NWS. Last year, the first snow didn’t happen until Oct. 28.
