Denver hosts 31-mile run where racers have to constantly consume Taco Bell

Oct 6, 2025, 4:56 PM | Updated: Oct 7, 2025, 10:40 am

If Taco Bell gives you the runs – athletically, that is – this needs to be on your bucket list.

There’s an ultrarunner event in Denver called the International Taco Bell 50k Ultramarathon. A 50k is 31 miles. The race is a loop throughout Denver and includes mandatory stops at 10 area Taco Bells.

Here’s how it works:

You have to order something at nine of the 10 Taco Bells, and you’ve got to actually eat the food. That includes one Chalupa Supreme or one Crunchwrap Supreme by the fourth stop, and one Burrito Supreme or one Nachos BellGrande by the eighth stop.

You need to finish the 31 miles within 11 hours. You need to keep all your receipts and wrappers, and “drinks do not count as food.” Naturally, this is a very challenging race for your digestive system, but you’ve got to keep it down. They have a zero-tolerance policy on vomiting. If you do, you’re immediately disqualified. And, you’re banned from on-course stomach medicines, including “Pepto, Pepcid AC, Alka-Seltzer and Mylanta.”

You are able to use the bathroom as much as you’d like, but you can only use Taco Bell restrooms, along with one other approved public toilet.

The Taco Bell 50K is in its eighth year, and this year’s happened on Saturday. They haven’t announced a winner or any final numbers, but they were expecting around 600 participants.

For the record, Taco Bell isn’t affiliated with this in any way and they won’t even comment on it. The organizers say they believe that it’s probably hung up by their legal team, because if they endorse it, they may open themselves up to liability issues. But they probably don’t mind the publicity.

Here’s one account of the event:

@rmpbs More than 700 runners took on the Taco Bell 50k today. The free ultramarathon, founded by Jason Romero and Dan Zolnikov, lets runners take on 30 miles of Denver streets as they eat their way through the city. The course features 10 Taco Bell locations, and runners must complete food challenges at 9 out of the 10 locations while running. Participants have 11 hours to finish the ultramarathon. Once across the finish line, finishers receive Taco Bell sauce packets taped to ribbons as medals. “I just ran the Berlin Marathon two weeks ago,” said Felix Wong, 50. “This is feeling quite a bit harder.” Produced by Peter Vo #tacobell50k #tacobell #ultramarathon ♬ original sound – Rocky Mountain PBS
