Denver has been named as a potential WNBA expansion city

If Caitlin Clark brings even part of the huge audience she drew as a college basketball player to the WNBA, professional women’s basketball is about to see a renaissance. How cool would it be if Denver got to be a part of it?

At April 15’s WNBA Draft, Commissioner Cathy Engelbert spoke at a press conference and dropped hints on which cities could host more WNBA teams in the coming years. Potential cities include Philadelphia, Toronto, Portland, Nashville, South Florida and Denver.

For the 2025 expansion, the WNBA already announced the 13th team will be owned and operated by the Golden State Warriors in the Bay Area.

Engelbert mentioned that the WNBA’s goal is to add three more teams in the next few years, landing the league with 16 teams.

In order for a city to have a WBNA team, they need an arena, a practice facility and committed long-term ownership groups.
