If you live in or around Denver and you were hoping to find a lover who is unvaccinated, it just got a little bit harder…
A singles mixer for unvaccinated people scheduled for May 29 at Recess Beer Garden in Denver’s Highland neighborhood has been canceled by the venue after staff said they faced verbal harassment and threats in the wake of the event’s announcement. The organizer, dating platform Unjected, said the free event will still take place elsewhere.
The mixer was being promoted by Unjected, which describes itself as the “world’s first unvaccinated platform” and says it is “built on creating health-conscious relationships with those who share like-minded values.” The event was scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. and had gained significant attention on social media after being announced earlier this week.
Recess Beer Garden said it canceled the event after organizers did not follow the venue’s policies for hosting large events and cited “escalating safety concerns.” The beer garden did not elaborate on the nature of the threats. Unjected has said it is searching for a new Denver venue and intends to move forward with the gathering on the same date.
The cancellation drew wide reaction online, with the story trending on Denver-area Reddit forums and across local social media. Neither Unjected nor Recess Beer Garden had issued additional public statements as of Wednesday evening.
