Rockies fans will pay more in 2027, following fourth straight 100-loss season

The Colorado Rockies just finished their fourth straight season with at least 100 losses, one short of the Major League Baseball record. Yet somehow next season, season-ticket holders will pay more to watch them. The team is raising 2027 season-ticket prices by about 12 percent on average. That works out to roughly 1 percent for each of the 15 extra wins the team managed this year.

Rockies President Walker Monfort knows how it looks. “It’s never fun, and there’s never a right time, right?” he said at the team’s end-of-season news conference Tuesday. “I guess if you go out and win the World Series, maybe 12 percent is OK.” He also admitted it’s “not easy to justify” after another 100-loss season. Paul DePodesta, the Rockies’ president of baseball operations, was blunt about the 58-104 record: “Let’s not mistake it for being good.”

Monfort’s case is that Rockies tickets have been some of the cheapest in baseball. The team says it ranked 29th out of 30 in season-ticket prices the last two years, and that similar mid-market teams will charge about 40 percent more in 2027. He also pointed to Colorado’s high minimum wage and to the TV money the team lost when its AT&T SportsNet deal ended in 2023. Fans aren’t convinced. One group of friends has had front-row seats in Section 134 since Coors Field opened in 1995. Their five seats are going from $21,080 to $24,010, a 14 percent jump. “We’re the suckers, I guess,” longtime season-ticket holder Rocco Dodson told the Denver Gazette.

There is a bright side. Rockies season tickets still come with guaranteed seats for every home playoff game, World Series included. It’s been a while since anyone needed that perk, but it’s still on the list. And the beer at Coors Field is just as cold whether the Rockies win or lose. That’s good, because they’ve lost a lot lately.
